Tibetan Salute to the Sun for Children

     Child pose

There was once a little prince and just like you, he was beautiful. When he slept, his mummy would watch his chest rising and falling. He slept with a soft smile on his lips, and softness in his little body.  He was such a peaceful child in his sleep that his mummy, who had been working all day and very busy, would feel peaceful too.

Kneeling and arc the arms above the head, palms together and to the eyebrows and to the heart.

When the little prince woke up, he would kneel in his bed and stretch his arms in the air and bring his hands together in a little prayer – once to his eyebrows because it is a very special point on the body. His mummy said, he could touch God there. And then he would bring his prayer into his heart, because that is where he could feel so much love.

Hands to the floor, slide them forward

Then like a cat, he brought his two hands to the floor and scooped his head and heart through his arms until he was in his favorite yoga pose called cobra. Cobra had always been a favorite pose because he loved all animals – after all this little prince was Ganesha – a chubby elephant prince.

Slide through into cobra

He loved the stretchy feeling so much that he often stayed there in cobra for a long time and then, press his body back into child pose.

Ganesha felt so delicious and joyous that he would do this Tibetan Sun Stretch over and over and over.
